Longleaf Pine on Louisiana Quarter beginning in 2015
Earlier this year, the Kisatchie National Forest was selected to represent the state of Louisiana in America the Beautiful Quarters Program. The National Forest is known for its vast area of Longleaf Pine that covers 604,000 acres. On the tails side of the quarter, a turkey is in flight and the Longleaf Pine is set as the background. The quarter was unveiled at a public ceremony on April 22, at the Alexandria Riverfront Center. Kisatchie was one of only five National Forests to be awarded the honor of being in the 56 coin series.
