The Longleaf Partnership Council gathered again on October 22-23 in conjunction with the national convention of the Society of American Foresters in Charleston, SC. "This gives us a terrific opportunity to showcase longleaf restoration efforts to hundreds of foresters from across the nation who are gathering in longleaf territory," said LPC Chair Vernon Compton. Indeed, interest in longleaf by SAF members appeared strong with the Longleaf Pine and Fire field tour sold out well in advance. The 33-member Council also held its regular business meeting to share updates and strategize about priority activities in 2014. Continuing the tradition of showcasing one member group at each meeting, the spotlight in Charleston was on the American Tree Farm System and its important programs nationwide.  Another highlight was the “changing of the guard” as Mike Black of the National Bobwhite Conservation Initiative assuming the leadership of the Council following a highly productive tenure by Compton.
