Longleaf Partnership Council Convenes in Biloxi

May 20, 2014 Vernon Thumb

The Longleaf Partnership Council (LPC) convened once again for its two day, semiannual meeting in Biloxi, MS on April 7-8.  These gatherings of longleaf leaders have a solid track record for being both highly productive and offering a terrific networking opportunity.  “With restoration efforts ongoing across nine states it’s critical that we have some ‘face time’ with all the different partners to stay connected and on track with respect to our common goals,” said LPC Chair Mike Black.  Meetings are held across the range to maximize participation opportunities by local partners and everyone is welcome to attend.  In Biloxi, the LPC meeting was held in conjunction with the NFWF and Southern Company Stewardship Partners Meeting so expectations for a memorable time were high.  LPC agenda items included such diverse topics as the 2013 Range-wide Accomplishment Report, implications of the new Farm Bill for longleaf and current efforts to increase prescribed fire regionally.  A new publication highlighting the Range-wide Land Protection Priorities for longleaf was also previewed.
