USDA helps restore, manage Longleaf Pine forests on private lands

The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service recently announced that $10.6 million in funding will be made available to aid forest managers to restore the Longleaf Pine ecosystem. This diverse ecosystem covers nine different states and is home to hundreds of unique species of plants and animals. The award will not only benefit the managers, but also Longleaf Pine because the trees need to endure a process of prescribed burning. This method simulates the natural process of fire that gives new life to the trees and soil. For more information about the award click here.
