Patriotic Pine: Longleaf Benefits National Defense

A blog titled “Patriotic Pine” has been published on the Natural Resources Conservation Service – Florida Longleaf Pine Blog. The blog discusses how longleaf pine benefits national defense and conversely, how the military helps longleaf. Healthy longleaf forests provide realistic training conditions for soldiers.  At the same time, regular testing and training activities occurring on installations, like live-fire exercises, result in recurring fires that benefit longleaf pine habitat by reducing underbrush, improving endangered species habitat, regenerating longleaf pine and suppressing undesirable hardwoods.  To learn more about the relationship between longleaf and the Department of Defense, read the entire blog link here:
