USDA Announces Funding for 2016 Longleaf Project

Recently, USDA Under Secretary for Natural Resources and Environment, Robert Bonnie announced that $40 million will be invested in restoration of forests near small communities. The money will go to preventing wildfires, increasing water supplies for plants and animals and to also help support the rural economies. One of the highlighted projects is the Longleaf Pine Partnership in Louisiana. The project will improve restoration on both public and private lands. The project managers will work closely with the U.S. Forest Service and the U.S. Department of Defense to reduce the threat of wildfire to local communities and provide water quality protection.
