Sentinel Landscapes Documentary to Premiere at DC Environmental Film Festival

**In light of recent updates regarding the spread of COVID-19, the REPI Program has decided to postpone the premiere of The Sentinels, which was scheduled for Friday, March 13^th at the D.C. Environmental Film Festival. While this was a difficult decision, we want to ensure that we take every step possible to promote the health and safety of the Sentinel Landscape’s community. 

Thank you to everyone who helped with the planning of this event and we apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause. We will provide further information regarding the new event date and location in the coming weeks. 

The D.C. Environmental Film Festival will hold the first public screening of the documentary “The Sentinels” on Friday, March 13^th, at the U.S. Department of the Interior, located at 1849 C Street NW, Washington D.C.  The festival event will take place from 6:30 PM ET – 9:00 PM ET.  “The Sentinels” will be the third film to premiere that evening and will begin around 7:30 PM ET.  The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with the filmmaker, Grizzly Creek Films, and several subjects of the film. 

“The Sentinels” is an exciting new documentary that explores the Sentinel Landscapes Partnership - a collaboration among the U.S. Department of Defense, Department of Agriculture, and Department of the Interior that works across conventional boundaries to strengthen military readiness, conserve natural resources, and bolster agricultural economies.  The Partnership recognizes “Sentinels” as those who stand guard, watch over, and look ahead.  Today, a new corps of Sentinels is emerging across the country to steward and defend the last intact landscapes from disappearing in a tidal wave of urbanization and land conversion.  These individuals fight for clean air, clear water, and the freedom to roam for both people and wildlife.  They also play a vital and unheralded role in protecting our national security.  For the first time, “The Sentinels” will tell their diverse stories.

Three out of the currently seven Sentinel Landscapes lie within the historic longleaf range: Avon Park Air Force Range Sentinel Landscape, the Georgia Sentinel Landscape, and the Eastern North Carolina Sentinel Landscape.
