April 2021 Longleaf Partnership Council Meeting

On April 27, 2021, the Longleaf Partnership Council (LPC) met virtually for a quarterly meeting to attend to the business needs of the LPC.  These regular meetings give LPC members and partners the opportunity to discuss upcoming and ongoing activities in support of longleaf pine restoration to reach the eight-million-acre goal called for in The Range-wide Conservation Plan for Longleaf Pine.

At this meeting, the LPC was introduced to the new Longleaf for All working group, a committee created to assist the LPC in being a better partner for minority and unserved landowners and professionals in the field of forestry and longleaf restoration.  Longleaf for All will work to develop recommendations to address specific challenges facing underrepresented landowners thereby enabling the LPC to more effectively build relationships, share information and resources, and provide guidance on how ALRI and partners can enact long-term strategies for inclusion and opportunities.

LPC members also listened to presentations and engaged in discussions on the following topics:

• Legislative activities relevant to the longleaf community and highlights from conversations held by an LPC subgroup working toward highlighting longleaf to decision and opinion leaders;
• Latest longleaf resiliency communication fact sheet – Thriving on Fire: The Resilient Longleaf Pine;
• Updates from the Federal Coordinating Committee;
• Sneak peak at the 2020 Range-wide Accomplishment Report;
• 2021 NFWF Longleaf Landscape Stewardship Fund awards progress;
• Updates from USFWS on longleaf ecosystem key species activities.

The next LPC meeting will be held virtually August 3, 2021.
