2022 ALRI Accomplishments Set the Stage for Future Success

America’s Longleaf Restoration Initiative is proud to debut the 2022 Range-wide Accomplishment Report celebrating over 2.2 million acres of accomplishments ranging from prescribed fire application to new longleaf plantings to land protection. 

“Restoring longleaf pine forests is more important than ever to help mitigate the global climate and biodiversity crisis in our corner of the world,” says Colette DeGarady, 2022 Longleaf Partnership Council Chair.  “Our collective work can help improve habitat for vast numbers of rare and endemic species while also building more resilient corridors for wildlife.”

In fiscal year 2022 (October 1, 2021 to September 30, 2022), ALRI partners:

• Planted 123,304 acres of new longleaf pine
• Protected 38,796 acres through acquisitions and easements
• Applied prescribed fire to over 1.7 million acres
• Applied silvicultural activities to 10,291 acres to convert existing forestland to longleaf-dominant forests

In addition to these incredible on-the-ground achievements, planning began for the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding between the Departments of Agriculture, Defense, and the Interior that originally helped establish ALRI.  Revisions to the Range-wide Conservation Plan are also underway to carry ALRI into the next 15 years!
